Choose three dinners before filling seven boxes

Our suggestion is to begin with three meals you want to eat. Give one to your busiest evening, one to a night with more time, and keep one flexible. You can add more once the first three feel realistic.

For example: creamy garlic chicken pasta on a night when you have time for both the pot and the skillet; smash burger tacos when that is what you are craving; then a familiar dinner you already know how to make. The point is a plan you can use, not a perfect-looking calendar.

Shop your kitchen first

Check the cupboard, fridge and freezer before writing the shopping list. MyPlate recommends checking what you already have and organizing the list by store section. We would also make a small “use first” note beside anything already open.

Compare that list with the actual recipe ingredients. A bag labelled pasta is a starting point; the amount left in it is what tells you whether you need to buy more.

Look for overlap you will enjoy

Read the ingredient lists side by side. If both meals use garlic, add the amounts before shopping. If you want parsley for only one finish, decide whether another planned meal gives you a reason to buy the bunch.

You do not need to force the same flavour into every dinner. Shared basics can make the shopping list simpler while the main meal still feels different. Keep optional toppings separate from the ingredients the recipe needs to work.

Give the plan an escape route

Leave space for a changed schedule or a meal out. Put the most flexible dinner later in the week rather than buying a different set of ingredients for every possible evening.

On this site, save your chosen recipes with the heart button and use the recipe pages as your checklist. Saved recipes stay in that browser, so open them on the device you take into the kitchen. For a shopping list shared between people or devices, copy your combined ingredient list into a shared note.
