How to scale a recipe without losing your place
A bigger batch starts with the quantities. The pan, timing and serving notes need a second look too.

Start with what the recipe actually makes
A batch and a serving are different things. A recipe that makes four tacos gives you a clear count. A recipe that says one batch needs you to decide how to divide it. Check the yield before you multiply anything.
On Crave Theory, the 1×, 2× and 3× buttons multiply the numbered ingredient amounts. They do not recalculate nutrition, rewrite the method or decide how hungry everyone is. Ingredients listed “to taste” stay that way.
Write one multiplier at the top of your list
For twice the recipe, multiply every numbered ingredient by two. Eight ounces of pasta becomes sixteen; half a cup becomes one cup. Use the same multiplier throughout, including the sauce and finishing ingredients.
Keep the original units while you make the calculation. Converting cups, ounces and grams at the same time adds another opportunity to lose track. If a conversion is necessary, use an ingredient-specific reference rather than assuming every cup weighs the same.
Check the pan before you start
A doubled ingredient list may need two pans or more than one batch of cooking. Decide that before your hands are busy. It is easier to divide ingredients while they are measured than to reorganize a full hot pan.
For baking, changing the pan also changes the depth of the mixture. King Arthur explains why that can affect how a bake cooks; use a tested pan conversion rather than treating the ingredient multiplier as the whole answer.
Read the method again
The scale button changes quantities, not cooking instructions. Review each step for the equipment it needs and any visual or doneness cues. Do not multiply the cooking time simply because you multiplied the ingredients.
Before serving, check your own portions and ingredient labels if you need nutrition information. Doubling a recipe is a kitchen calculation, not a verification of the original nutrition estimate.
