To assemble

Contains wheat, egg and milk. Check roll, breadcrumb and sauce labels.

Let’s cook

Make it tonight.

  1. Mix and shape

Heat the oven to 220°C (200°C fan). Line a baking tray with parchment. Mix turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan, garlic, oregano, salt and pepper just until combined. Shape into 16 equal meatballs.
  2. Bake the meatballs

Place on the tray, brush with the olive oil and bake for 18–22 minutes, until the centre of the largest meatball reaches 74°C on a food thermometer.
  3. Warm the sauce

Meanwhile, warm the marinara in a saucepan over medium-low heat for 5 minutes, stirring. Add the cooked meatballs and gently turn to coat. Keep warm on low heat.
  4. Toast and fill

Split the rolls without cutting all the way through. Place on a separate baking tray and toast in the oven for 3–4 minutes. Fill each with four meatballs and sauce, then divide the mozzarella over them.
  5. Melt and serve

Switch the oven to grill/broil. Grill the filled rolls for 1–3 minutes until the cheese melts, watching constantly. Use a metal tray without parchment under the grill. Serve hot.

Make it yours.

Change the mince

Use 500 g ground chicken instead of turkey. Cook the largest meatball to 74°C.

Keep the rolls crisp

Toast the rolls before filling. Spoon in enough sauce to coat the meatballs and serve any extra alongside.

Make it a bowl

Skip the rolls and serve the sauced meatballs and mozzarella over cooked pasta or rice. Cook your chosen base separately.

Equipment

Mixing bowl, two baking trays, parchment for the meatballs, saucepan, pastry brush and food thermometer..
